We bought a scuffed up old metal lunchbox at a thrift store and turned it into a fun Retro Lunchbox with our Retro Robot Stationery.
Retro Robot Lunchbox Project How-To 2. Place your stationery pieces over the lunchbox where you want the design to lay. Trace the outline of the box on the back of the stationery with a pencil and cut out your paper to fit flush to the contours of the lunchbox. 3. Cut your pieces to lay around handles, hinges, and protruding edges. (You can spray paint lunchboxes edges that show a design that conflicts with the stationery.) It's helpful to lightly pencil where each piece should go on the wrong side. 4. Once all your pieces are cut and you know where they all fit you are ready to glue them on. Make sure your surface is clean. Pour glue into a plastic container and mix in a very small amount of water. Stir the water into the glue until it is slightly thinner than normal consistency, or use Mod Podge. Paint the decoupage glue onto the lunchbox, carefully lay your pieces into place and paint more glue over top of your paper. Gently smooth out any bubbles with your finger and finish off the surface with nice even strokes of your brush. Wait until your surface is dry before laying it down to do the opposite side. 5. When your glue is dry spray your lunchbox with a clear acrylic sealer for a smooth protective finish.
